The focus of any bathroom is the vanity so your choice in vanity is very important and you want to choose a vanity that looks good and gives you the functions you require.  Because there is such a vast range of bathroom vanities available to choose from we’ve created this guide to help you make the right choice.

What is a Bathroom Vanity?

A bathroom vanity is the combination of a bathroom sink or sinks and surrounding furniture.  The vanity is the cabinet that the sink is installed within.
As your bathroom vanity is most likely to be the most used item in the bathroom it is important to choose correctly as a good vanity creates an easier bathroom environment as well as defining the entire look of the bathroom.

Options in Bathroom Vanities

A real problem facing you when you need to choose your bathroom vanity is the vast and seemingly endless range  of styles that you can choose from. The variations commence with size from the small pedestal units through to the incredibly spacious double vanities.  Then there is the range of materials you will find that vanities are made from such as timber, MDF, laminates. polyurethane and so on.

The internal structure of a vanity is normally constructed of a moisture resistant material as they are installed in a wet area.  Benchtops can be Marble, Granite, Caesarstone, Timber, Laminate, Acrylic, or even Stainless Steel all available in a large range of colours and patterns to match your bathroom.

Bathroom vanities are available as single or double sinks depending on your needs. The advantages of double sinks are when two people need to get ready at the same time. Storage provided by the vanity is also very versatile creating drawer and cupboard space. Inserts and organisers are also available to provide organisation keeping everything in its place.

Choosing a Bathroom Vanity

Step one is evaluating the size of the bathroom as your vanity needs to look like it fits within your bathroom like it was always meant to be there. The vanity should not be too large as this could provide difficulty opening doors and drawers properly and it will just overwhelm the space. On the other hand if you choose a vanity that is too small you’ll find the same amount of frustration.
Step two is deciding on a single or double sink. Once you have decided on the size, you’ll need to decide if you want a single or double sink in your vanity

Step three is the design of your vanity and using your imagination is a good idea.  For example, a provincial vanity can look wonderful within a country styled bathroom whilst a marble topped vanity generally gives a bathroom a luxury feel.  Be mindful of the colour and the materials and don’t just look at the shape of the vanity when making your decision. Ideally you want a vanity that becomes the centrepiece of the bathroom.  importantly remember maintenance will be needed and take this into consideration as different materials will require different levels of care and attention. For example wood vanities can look amazing however they need to be regularly sealed so that they don’t warp or rot from the moisture.
